More photos from beastie boys

posted by DL Byron on February 26, 2006

My crappy camera phone continues to take photos that look like stills from a Beastie Boys video and I’ve started a photocast just for them (note the photocast requires an RSS reader). The latest photos were taken on the way to LAX.

Grotulated Camera Lens

posted by DL Byron on February 23, 2006

grotulated grossness The lens on my crappy camera phone got all grotulated from various bits of goo at the bottom of my messenger bag and resulted in a cool, saturated filter, which can be seen in this photo of Brownrigg. I don’t know how long it’ll last, but having all my shots look like they’re from the Beastie Boys’ So What’cha Want video is like the coolest thing ever.

To Live and Ride in LA

posted by DL Byron on February 23, 2006

I survived a brief ride in LA yesterday afternoon. With few options, I just jumped into the stream of traffic on Olympic Blvd, hauled ass, turned around, and heading right back to the hotel. Today, I’ll try another route up into Beverly Hills.

While I was riding, an intriguing LA story about a shattered, million dollar ferrari, a millionaire passenger (?), gamers, and more.

Avenue of the Stars Delivers

posted by DL Byron on February 23, 2006

Waiting for Brownrigg in the lobby in a hotel on the Avenue of the Stars, I overheard Estella Warren discuss her finances with a couple suits. I’m not much into celeb culture, but that was interesting and discussed until we met our robowaiter who looked remarably like Peter Weller and delivered our meal with robotic precision.

I last saw Estella play a psycho bitch whose lips are “filled with goose down” in Law & Order’s Flaw episode. She played opposite Linda Carter who was equally pyscho bitchy and still hot, over forty, even without that golden lasso. As I told Pam, as a boy, I was absolutely fascinated by Wonder Woman in the 70s.

From 6 Below to Sunny and 60

posted by DL Byron on February 22, 2006

From Colorado, I landed in Los Angeles for more client work. I’m staying in Century City on the Avenue of the Stars. Nearby is the hotel Bruce Willis hung from in the Die Hard movie.

Snow Blown

posted by DL Byron on February 18, 2006

The combination of altitude, snow activities, client meetings, schmoozing, and evangelism finally got to me and I realized yesterday that I was totally “snow” blown. Staring at a blog entry for ten minutes to write one sentence was the first indicator. Jason said, “yeah, it’s like your swap disk is full.” Absolutely, I need some time to decompress, relax, clear my swap disk, and then hit it again next week with another business trip to Santa Monica for more consulting.

While in Colorado for , I snowshoed, tubed, hiked, and had a great time. So did all the other bloggers

Keystone Colorado Snoeshoeing

posted by DL Byron on February 16, 2006

The snowshoeing was great at Keystone. We burned through the course in Olympian time (at least we thought so) and then abandoned our efforts, when a 45 MPH freezing wind blew the warmth right out of our bodies and brought with it ominous storm clouds.

I’ve uploaded photos to the photocast (requires an RSS reader)

What’s impressed me the most about Keystone is the diversity of activities. There’s like a hundred things to do at anytime and most of them are family oriented. While Buzz, Dav, and Jason skied, Scoble, Maryamie and Mie rode snowmobiles.

Pay for Microsoft Product Defects

posted by DL Byron on February 09, 2006

Imagine if the auto industry worked this way, you buy a car with 300 known safety and reliability issues, and then you have to pay for a warranty to make sure they don’t cause injury to you. That’s what Microsoft just announced with their Windows Onecare Live, a security service for a defective product.

What other product on the planet operates on this M.0. The consumer is penalized for their defects. I use OSX and run zero virus protection and only a firewall. For more on that, see the commentary from MacDailyNews.

Next Generation of Design

posted by DL Byron on February 08, 2006

User Experience & Interaction Designer and blogger Jason Fields leads a discussion tonight about designing the next-generation of products at the IDSA LA chapter. Jason reviewed and became a fan Clip-n-Seal way early on, noting the study in minimalism.

My question to Jason is if he’s seeing the blog aesthetic in new consumer products. Just like the iMac affecting a whole range of products (including the Foreman Grill), are blogs having a similar affect? Are big fonts and mashupped text appearing in product packaging? Are product designer Getting Real with their goods?

Batten down the hatches

posted by DL Byron on February 04, 2006

Growing up in the Tri-Cities (where the wind doesn’t blow, it sucks), I’ve experienced many wind storms. Difference here in Seattle is that wind drives the pouring rain. And that causes a mini squall affect, where the rain is whipped up, violently around, and thrown right into your face. For a few seconds, I thought I’d go out for a quick ride, checked outside, got a face full of stinging squall and that was it for me.

Urban Coyotes Roam the Streets

posted by DL Byron on February 03, 2006

We’ve heard the Coyotes howling (that’ll wake you up!) and there’s been debate in the neighborhood as to whether it’s the coyotes or foxes in Schmitz Park. Well, it doesn’t take much more convincing that to see a coyote just saunter right up your street. Pam posts about it on her new iWeb blog. So, yes, I’m in my office, look out the window, and there’s a coyote.

One less Windows application

posted by DL Byron on February 01, 2006

Finally, I found Endicia for Mac and it’s replaced stamps.com, which I was using with VirtualPC for all of our Clip-n-Seal postage. I can now just use VirtualPC just for testing and not a daily app.
