We’re all pretty excited about this one: November’s Dwell magazine makes prominent reference to Textura Design. A couple months ago, Dwell asked our own Byron to be November’s expert in that month’s “Dwell Reports” feature.
November’s topic: urban bike’s—and who better than Bike Hugger Byron?
Although this is largely a Hugger-related spot, I think we’ll all be happy if it produces some high-end design and architecture gigs.

Blade Runner like, the city is full of various neon, flashing, and motor lights. Standing on a corner to get the neon boxes shot, I imagined a noisy blimp floated by selling noodles.

We spotted these attendees with some cool looking schwag at IDF Taipei and asked them what they had. Hilarity ensues.

This “coral structure” marked the entrance to a artist squatter community that’s probably torn down by now. I think the tubes are painted PVC. There was another smaller one off to the right. As we learned, artist communities in Taipei establish themselves in old barracks, thrive for a while, and then get kicked out.

French, urban fashion from Agnes B is popular in Taipei — the hair, the hips, and the cyclists in the foreground. That’s us and Dahon.

The flight to Narita, then onto Taipei for the Intel Developer Forum was uneventful compared to a recent Vegas flight. The details are sketchy as it happened very fast and I still don’t know exactly what happened, but do know this
After that confusing and thrilling experience, I decided that was definitely worth a first-class upgrade and Alaska agreed. We took photos while on the plane, the attendants, mechanic, and pilot were all very nice and cordial.
That was a “never had that happened before” experience. With Alaska’s Wild Northwest past, I bet there are many more.

Due to Byron’s delicate gastro-intestinal constitution, I’ve been designated the official TDI “adventure eater” for our upcoming trip IDF Taipei. I’ve been scouring sites for ideas on what to eat and where to eat it, but until this morning, those ideas have amounted to:

Next Friday, Byron and I are off to Taipei for the next Intel Developer Forum October 15-16. We arrive a few days early to adjust to the time difference and to do some advance blogging for the IDF Taipei folks and for Bike and Snow Huggers. Unfortunately, we don’t arrive until three days after Double Ten Day, which all my Taiwanese friends have chastised me for missing.
Having never traveled in Asia, I’m inexpressibly excited. Will it be exotic? Will I learn to haggle properly in the night market? Will I be offered strange things to eat? Will my kidneys be stolen?
While we’re there, we’ll be riding our folding bikes, meeting the folks from Dahon, gorging ourselves on Taiwanese culture, and covering the IDF events. So tell us: what must we see in Taiwan?
